Text area with other languages- how can this be done

I have a field where customers can add text to customize a product. However, we just noticed that when the customer adds text in another language besides the primary language of English, an error occurs, the product can not be added to the cart due to the other language.

How can we overcome this problem? If its just a matter of a few languages (say Russian, Arabic or Hebrew), would it just be a matter of adding files for those languages?

Well, it should not break when using different languages as text in textarea, can you please check it at our demo site here: https://ppom.nmediahosting.com/product/happy-ninja/

It is working on the demo but it is definitely not working on our development site. I have checked the logs and there is no indication of why it isn’t showing.

and the pages are set as utf-8 so should in theory accept other characters. The wp_nm_personalized table is collated as utf8mb4_unicode_ci.
Any suggestions of why the field does not accept other language characters?

Hi,

sometimes server-side settings affect this character encoding. Better to check for this as well.

i think i may have figured out the problem. it seems some of the tables in the db were encoded as latin1. i switched them to utf8 and it seems to be working now.
