Two things,
1) I found answer to the problem which was simply because the variation did not have a description, I have added and so that is now fine.
I found other issues with v10.8 so have reverted to v8.1
I will keep an eye on your latest versions, but hopefully there will be a pause in your re-engineering and a focus on bug fixes for a while!
